A solar pond is a reservoir of salty water that stores solar heat and uses this heat for power generation or other applications. Solar ponds work by creating layers of water with different salinity levels. Sunlight passes through the top layer of low-salinity water and is absorbed by the bottom layer of high-salinity water, which heats up as a result. The hot water is then pumped to the surface and used to generate electricity or provide heat for industrial processes. However, solar ponds are not currently widely used for large-scale commercial power generation.
