Concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) systems use mirrors or lenses to concentrate sunlight onto a smaller area of photovoltaic (PV) cells, which increases their efficiency and reduces the amount of expensive PV material required. However, because of the high concentration of solar energy, these systems generate significant amounts of waste heat that must be dissipated. If this waste heat can be harnessed for other purposes, such as water heating, the overall efficiency of the system can be increased.
